Accreditation
Licensing and Accreditation

In the State of California, all hospitals are licensed and regulated by the California Department of Health Services. The California Department of Health Services is part of the California Health and Human Services Agency. As part of its mandate, the California Department of Health Services administers a broad range of public and clinical health programs that provide healthcare services to Californians. RCRMC has been licensed with the Department of Health Services since 1998 and was previously licensed as Riverside General Hospital, since 1893.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is the federal agency responsible for administering the Medicare, Medicaid, State Children’s Health Insurance (SCHIP), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and several other health-related programs. In order to be able to offer services and provide patient care under the Federal Medicaid Program, hospitals must also comply with and meet CMS Conditions of Participation. Additional information regarding CMS and its programs is available at http://new.cms.hhs.gov/home/aboutcms.asp.

Hospitals may also elect to be accredited by additional regulatory bodies such as the Joint Commission, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and the Institute for Medical Quality (IMQ).

RCRMC Accredited by the Joint Commission

Joint Commission RCRMC is proud to be accredited by the Joint Commission.

Joint Commission evaluates the quality and safety of care for more than 15,000 health care organizations. To maintain and earn accreditation, organizations must have an extensive on-site review by a team of Joint Commission health care professionals, at least once every three years. The purpose of the review is to evaluate the organization's performance in areas that affect patient care. Accreditation may then be awarded based on how well the organizations met Joint Commission standards. For more information on the Joint Commission, visit www.jointcommission.org.

The public may contact the Joint Commission's Office of Quality Monitoring to report any concerns or register complaints about a Joint Commission-accredited health care organization by either calling (800) 994-6610 or emailing compliant@jcaho.org.
