Qualified Attending Staff and Residents may be granted moderate sedation privileges once the following criteria and requirements have been met.
- Attending Staff must apply for moderate sedation unless it is identified as a core privilege for their specialty. If you desire this privilege, provide a written request to the Medical Staff Office.
- Resident Staff at RCRMC will establish competency to perform moderate sedation through the Medical Education Committee.
- Mandatory viewing of the online Moderate Sedation Inservice presentation.
- After completion of the exam, submit your test to the appropriate office. A successful passing grade of 85% on the written exam is required.
- A written communication will be sent to you advising you of your test results. If you have passed the exam, you will receive a Proctor Form and a verification of Moderate Sedation Inservice Form. After you have been proctored for one case, submit both completed forms to the appropriate office.
- Upon successful completion of 3 and 4, an attending practitioner holding the same privilege will evaluate you for moderate sedation. This competency evaluation shall consist of one (1) case. It is your responsibility to arrange for the proctor.
- Attending Staff: Upon successful completion of the above-noted requirements, approval of the moderate sedation privilege shall be obtained by the Credentials Committee, the Medical Executive Committee, and the Governing Board. A written communication will be sent to you when the final approval has been obtained.
- Resident Staff: Approval of moderate sedation privileges must be obtained by the Graduate Medical Education Committee.
- In order for the attending physician to maintain this privilege at the time of reappointment, s/he must provide clinical activity of two (2) cases per year without sedation complication or view the Moderate Sedation Inservice presentation if there are insufficient cases.
